THE ICELANDIC LOVE CORPORATION

OPENS MARCH 26, 7–9PM

PERFORMANCE MARCH 28, 6PM

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING ABOUT THE ILC:

Like Björk times three, the collaborative members of The Icelandic Love Corporation—Sigrún Hrólfsdóttir, Jóní Jónsdóttir, and Eirún Sigurdardóttir, who met at art school in Reykjavík—stage primal, enchanting performances in radically avant-garde attire. In a video that’s part of their North American debut at Williamsburg’s Jack the Pelican Presents, the sequined trio replaces the organs of a gutted cod, in tribute to Iceland’s chief natural resource. For a March 28 performance at the space, “it’s not clear yet what they’ll do, but they did assure me that it’s going to be very messy,” says gallery co-director Don Carroll. That shouldn’t deter their growing fan base, reported to include Iceland’s most famously eccentric sprite herself.

These are modern women shopping freely in the art-historical supermarket, furnishing their world without asking too many questions about where those wonderful inventions—performance, installation and video art—originally came from and why.
